As Store Manager you are ultimately responsible for the running and commercial performance of the store. Your main areas of work will involve monitoring sales performance, maximising turnover and profits, dealing with customer service issues such as queries and complaints, staff recruitment, training and management and dealing with health and safety and security issues. You will also oversee stock control, ensuring quality is of a high standard and that stock and supplies are re-ordered in time. You will be given autonomy to run the store and make decisions that are crucial to the day to day operation of the store. You will ensure that customers are assisted by the Sales Advisors to find the products they want and that the customer leaves the store having had a very positive experience. Taking responsibility for opening up and closing the store and ensuring the store is well presented and that stock is displayed appropriately Dealing with health and safety matters and ensuring the store is compliant with Health and Safety legislation Till management including cashing up, authorising refunds and liaising with Head Office and/or the software supplier to resolve till or computer problems Resolving customer complaints and dealing with escalated queries Maintaining tight control of costs and expenditure and ensuring excellent standards of customer service are maintained at all times Making reasonable on the spot decision regarding discounts etc. whilst giving thought to profit margins Identifying where staffing gaps exist and resolving accordingly via shift changes and/or staff recruitment and ensuring staff are motivated and offer a positive experience to all customers Staff recruitment and training. Performance management, development and handling any disciplinary or grievance issues in line with procedure. Probation monitoring and management Deciding the appropriate pricing of gowns with guidance from the Head Office where appropriate Ensuring stock levels of wedding dresses are maintained across a range of sizes, fabrics and styles Liaising with the Head Office to monitor stock deliveries and requesting stock from other shops if appropriate Checking stock delivery details, ensuring correct stock has been delivered, price up and put dresses on the rails in the appropriate order Steaming and cleaning gowns, controlling the quality of all stock and ensuring that any sold gowns requiring seamstress attention are prioritised and returned to the customer promptly Banking ensuring bank documentation is completed and cash is deposited and understanding and monitoring the financial performance of the store Liaising with Head Office regarding the procurement of stock and accessories Reporting all accidents and incidents promptly using the designated form Attending meetings as and when requested, which may be held at other offices or stores within the UK.


Experience, aptitude and enthusiasm are more important to the role than qualifications. There are no minimum academic qualifications required, although the position requires high levels of numeracy and literacy so a good general education to a GCSE or equivalent standard is important. A high level of computer literacy is essential. Retail management experience is essential, ideally within high value retail, fashion or Bridalwear. Able to offer flexibility to the needs of the business Friendly, reliable, trustworthy and honest Enjoy working with the public and managing staff in a positive manner Confident and assertive, smart appearance Plenty of stamina The job holder will need to be able to lift wedding dresses up to 5kg
