The Merchandise Planner works in close collaboration with the Product Managers and supports the process of collection development in various ways.
Based upon historical results and market trends, the Merchandise Planner plans and forecasts future merchandise purchases to maximize company profits in accordance with strategically defined KPIs on margin, pricing, assortment depth and width (stock level per period, markdown).
She/he plays a key role in all commercial decisions on budgets to be spent, the number of lines to be bought and in what quantity is involved in setting selling prices to regulate profit and makes decisions on when the stocks should be delivered into the retail network.
The Merchandise Planner reports to the Head of Merchandising.
The Merchandise Planner plays a key role in following processes:
Analysing past sales figures/trends to anticipate future product needs and translating these data into KPI's of the Strategic Company Plan
Managing the OTB for a number of product categories
Preparing periodical intake plans and supervising overall KPI / collection balance on regional and/or store category level
Planning and continuously monitoring the balance of the collection on pricing levels and diverse sub-categories to ensure maximal sales through ratios at the highest margin and least markdown
Forecasting of big line volumes
Ensuring that bottom-up collection feedback from the retail network is actioned
Defining the sourcing strategy (SHARE OF LONG TERM, MID TERM, SHORT TERM) with the buyer to achieve the best OMU and keeping reactivity during the whole season
Build the plan by store category and inform the Allocation team to ensure correct intake planning and distribution of the collections to desired store categories
Advising the Commercial Managers on presentations, markdowns, stock movements, promotions
Setting-up and refining reporting and planning tools in accordance with the IT department
To be able to play this key role in the company, you need to have a passion for fashion and a desire to work in a working environment which continuously adapts and evolves.
A proven experience and understanding of the retail industry and mathematical / forecasting business statistics is absolutely vital for success.
Good communication skills -in both French and English- are also important in order to communicate your findings and decisions to company managers.
Due to its close collaboration with the Product Managers and all other commercial departments, she/he must be team player by excellence.
Computer literacy and proficiency in Excel / Business Intelligence software is an absolute must.
